Going From Straitly Shut Up To
Wide Open
Josh 6:1-2 (KJS)
Now Jericho was straitly shut up because
of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
2 And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have
given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, [and] the mighty men of
valour.
- Now Jericho was straitly shut up - "It
was barred and bolted".
I. WHAT GOD GIVES, SOMETIMES SEEM TO STRAITLY
SHUT UP.
1. Sometimes it may seem that everything God has
given you, or told you to do, has bars and bolts on it. It is "Straitly
Shut Up".

2. God had told Joshua to cross the Jordan and
posses the land (Josh 1:2).
- Every place that his feet shall touch, God
would give them (Josh 1:3).
- God told him to be strong and of good courage,
and that He would be with him (Josh 1:9).
- When Joshua came to Jericho, God said
"See, I have given into thine hand Jericho".
3. It didn't look good for Joshua, what God said
was his, looked impossible to get.
A. But victory is not based on what it looks
like; it is based on what God has said.
II. GOING FROM SHUT UP TO WIDE OPEN.
1. When God says, "It's yours", we
sometime don't find the correct way to take it.
2. We need direction.
A. Without direction from God, most of us would
have tried to enter through the gates.
B. Gods ways are not the same as mans ways.
3. Joshua was told by God to march around the
walls.
4. Joshua had divine intervention.
III. GOD HAS GIVEN US A PROMISE IN HIS WORD.
1. And He will give us the right direction we
need to receive it.
A. We are lead by the Holy Spirit.
B. We hear the voice of God. (John 10:27)
IV. GETTING FROM STRIGHTLY SHUT UP TO THE PLACE
OF WIDE OPEN.
1. We need:
A. The promise, or a Word from God.
B. Faith in what God has said.
C. Action in the direction God gives.
D. Divine intervention.
1. Holy Spirit
2. Anointing.
