In the film "Forrest Gump" Forrest's bitter, disabled Vietnam veteran friend, Lieutenant Dan, was watching a church choir sing on television. In a sarcastic tone Dan asked Forrest, "Gump, have you found Jesus yet?" Forrest's innocent reply was, "I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for Him."

Many people think like Forrest Gump. They do not know that they need to find Jesus or that He is seeking to "find them." It is our responsibility as Christians to show people the love of the Lord and tell them of His matchless grace.

Author: Rev. Scott Bennett, Hickman Baptist Church (Texas)

Isai 55:6 (KJS) Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

  • For Salvation
  • For Abundant Life

I. Those Who Seek The Lord Shall Find Him.

Jere 29:13 (KJS) And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

  •  We need to seek Gods Direction

Prov 3:5-6 (KJS) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

  • We need to seek Gods wisdom (Pro 2:1-5) (James 1:5-6)

II. Those Who Seek The Lord Shall Rejoice.

1Chr 16:8 (KJS) Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.

III. Those Who Seek The Lord Shall Not Want Any Good Thing.

Psal 34:10 (KJS) The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good [thing].

  • Any good thing, is anything we ask according to His will. (1John 5:14-15)

IV. Those Who Seek The Lord Shall Not Be Forsaken.

Psal 9:9-10 (KJS) The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

V. Those Who Seek The Lord Shall Be Blessed

Ezra 8:21-22 (KJS) Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

22 For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God [is] upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath [is] against all them that forsake him.

VI. Those Who Seek The Lord Shall Be Rewarded.

Hebr 11:6 (KJS) But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

  • Now (Mat.6:31-33)
  • Later (1Cor.3:9-15) (Mat.16.27)

Bill Effler; San Mateo, California shared the following:

Columnist Herb Caen wrote in the San Francisco Chronicle: "Every morning

in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest

lion or it will be killed. Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must

outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter

whether you are a lion or a gazelle; when the sun comes up, you'd better be

running."

Spurgeon wrote likewise: "If you are not seeking the Lord, the Devil is

seeking you. If you are not seeking the Lord, judgment is at your heels."

In the Christian life, it's not enough simply to wake up. We are called to

run, to become more like Christ, to press ahead in godliness.
