| James 2:21- 23
James 2:23 (KJS) And the scripture was fulfilled which saith,
Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was
called the Friend of God.
"And he was called the Friend of God"
WHAT SHALL WE BE CALLED?
1. SONS OF GOD
1Joh 3:1-2. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed
upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world
knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we
shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we
shall see him as he is.
2. SERVANT
Acts 2:17-18. And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith
God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men
shall dream dreams:
18. And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those
days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
3. FRIEND
John 15:13-15 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay
down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his
lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have
heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
A. God used to be, just my saviour.
B. Then He was my Healer
C. Then He was my Provider
D. But now He is not only Abraham's friend, be is also my Friend.
ABRAHAM STARTED OFF HIS WALK WITH GOD, IN OBEDIENCE.
Hebr 11:8-10 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a
place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he
went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as [in] a strange
country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the
same promise:
10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker
[is] God
Gen.12:1-7 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get
thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto
a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy
name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and
in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him:
and Abram [was] seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their
substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran;
and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan
they came.
6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain
of Moreh. And the Canaanite [was] then in the land.
7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this
land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
God reveals Himself and His favours to His people by
degrees;
A. First, He speaks to Abram, then He appears,to
Abram.
B. First, He promised to show Abram the land, Then, He Promised
to give Abram the land.
ABRAHAM WAS ON A JOURNEY
Gen. 12:9
And Abram Journeyed, going on still toward the south.
A. On his journey of faith, somehow he ended up in Egypt.
B. But God got him back on the right way.
Gen.12:20- 13:4 And Pharaoh commanded [his] men concerning him: and
they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
13:1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had,
and Lot with him, into the south.
2 And Abram [was] very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto
the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;
4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first:
and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
ABRAHAM TITHED
Gen 14:18-22 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and
wine: and he [was] the priest of the most high God.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed [be] Abram of the most high God,
possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into
thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
21 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the
goods to thyself.
22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the
LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
ABRAMHAM WAKED BY FAITH BEFORE HE INTERED INTO COVENANT
Heb 11:8 By
faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should
after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing
whither he went.
